The White Christmas soundtrack album contains studio versions of the songs. In many cases, they sound nothing like what is in the movie, i.e. on the actual soundtrack. This was disconcerting to me, as the real movie soundtrack was so familiar. So I recorded the songs from the DVD so I can listen to the songs from the actual soundtrack. Here they are.
Caring, sharing
Ev'ry little thing that we are wearing.
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome,
She wore the dress and I stayed home.
All kinds of weather, we stick together,
The same in the rain or sun.
Two diff'rent faces, but in tight places,
We think and we act as one.
Uh huh.
Those who've seen us
Know that not a thing could come between us.
Many men have tried to split us up, but no one can
Lord help the mister
Who comes between me and my sister,
And Lord help the sister
Who comes between me and my man.
[Fade out]
[So, here’s the skinny on this song. Because of her contract with Columbia Records, Rosemary Clooney’s voice couldn’t be included on the “White Christmas” album released by Decca Records. So Decca recorded the songs with Peggy Lee substituting for Rosemary Clooney, who released her own “White Christmas” album, singing “Sisters” as a duet with her real sister, Betty Clooney. I don’t care for the jazzed-up version released on the “soundtrack” album, and I can tell that the Clooney Sisters version is different from what I remember. (Trudy Stevens sang for Vera Ellen in the movie and on the “soundtrack” album.)
When my bankroll is getting small,
I think of when I had none at all,
And I fall asleep
Counting my blessings.
I think about a nursery,
And I picture curly heads,
And one by one I count them,
As they slumber in their beds.
If you're worried and you can't sleep,
Just count your blessings instead of sheep,
And you'll fall asleep
Counting your blessings.
I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write.
May your days be merry and bright,
And may all your Christmases be white.
